COVER REVEAL: One Week Hating You by Roya Carmen

Hi all – happy hump day! What better way to celebrate making it to the middle of the week, than with a little sneak peek at a book by one of my fave romance authors?!

Title: One Week Hating You

Author: Roya Carmen

Genre: 2nd Chance Love/Hate Story

Release: October 25, 2018

Cover Design: Calico Images

Maeve is over the moon: life is good and she’s about to get married to Peter.  But when she loses her job and gets jilted at the altar, her world crumbles and she runs into her momma’s arms.

She’s back in her small hometown for a week, and she has a plan – make Peter insanely jealous and win him back.  Enter Blake Taylor, the boy who broke her heart.  She’d rather avoid him at all costs, but with his ‘bad boy’ good looks and their shared history, Blake is the perfect man for the job, as long as she can stand him long enough – it’s just one week, after all.

She’ll show Peter that she’s not the sweet wallflower he thinks she is, and he’ll come running back soon enough.

But when he does, will she still want him?

A second chance love hate story.

As soon as he closes the door behind us, he grabs my wrist and pulls me in to him.

The sudden tug makes me jerk. “You’re hurting me.”

His eyes are darker than I’ve ever seen them, as dark as coal. “No way in hell I’m letting you do this, Maeve. I’m not going to let you ruin our last night together. You’re mine tonight.”

He presses a hand gently on my cheek. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said all that.”

The anger that had overwhelmed me just a second ago, instantly fades. All that remains is longing and desire. He’s right – I can’t ruin our last night together.

He draws my mouth to his. “I’m going to miss you,” he whispers.

“Me too,” I tell him, and get lost in his kiss. It’s as sweet and sexy as the kisses we shared years ago, but as he presses me against the door, it grows in intensity, and the boy’s kiss I remember so well morphs into the man’s kiss, the kind of kiss that makes you melt, and wet with want.

I get lost in his kiss, never wanting it to end. My fingers dig into his hair wildly as I wrap my leg tightly around his waist. I can’t get enough of him.

He tears himself away, and my heart jerks. He’s teasing again, or playing games. “What?”

He smiles, an impish grin. “No more kissing.”

“What?!” I say, incredulous. There’s no way we’re not kissing all night. This is what tonight’s all about.

He takes my hand and leads me to the chairs by the window. “Not another kiss until I get you completely naked.”

I smile. “How about you?”

He grins widely. “You be patient, Freckles.”

He slides a long finger along the curve of my dress. “I love this, but it has to go.” He spins me around, and presses his hot mouth on the nape of my neck. My whole core responds to him, so easily. He slides the zipper down slowly. “You’re too good for me,” he says quietly.

I want to protest and tell him that no, I’m not too good for him, but I get completely lost in the feel of his hand sliding down my back.

“You should go back to him,” he goes on. “He can give you the life you want, the life you deserve.” He slides the sleeveless dress over my shoulders and lets it drop to the floor. He bites my shoulder gently and I close my eyes. “I’ll always want you, Maeve. I’ll always remember this… the way your skin tastes and feels under my touch.”

I reach for him and fiddle with the buttons on his shirt but I can’t quite get at them – I’m a mess. He’s turned me into rubber. His hands slide over the curve of my waist, draw circles around my navel, and finally settle on the band of my lace panties. “I know you’ll always remember this too. When you’re fucking him, you’ll be thinking about me.”

He’s right, and he knows it.

Blog tour: The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan

Book: The Wrong Kind of Love

Series: The Boys of Jackson Harbor #1

Author: Lexi Ryan

Release date: 12 February 2018

Main characters: Nicole Maddox, the wronged would-be bride and incurable romantic, Ethan Jackson, her one-night distraction, who becomes so much more.

Plot: Nicole Maddox has always had a bad track record with love, but she keeps trying. When the most recent disaster involves her twin sister admitting she’s pregnant, and the father is Nicole’s fiancé – enough is enough. It’s time to get out of Dodge.

She grabs her sister’s bag by mistake but decides to hop on the plane her sister was supposed to take to her new life. A new town where nobody knows her could be just the thing.

Her first night in Jackson Harbor has her drowning her sorrows and also trying hard not to stare at the brooding-but-devastatingly-handsome-stranger in the bar. She doesn’t need any more issues with the opposite sex, but maybe he could temporarily distract her from her life that has just imploded…

When Nicole resolves to stick around in Jackson Harbor for a while to lick her wounds – an opportunity presents itself. A job as a nanny to a little girl, that her sister was supposed to be starting. Taking it means having to pretend to be her, a masquerade she’s not altogether comfortable with, but needs must. When her boss turns out to be Dr. Ethan Jackson – aka the brooding god in the bar, Nicole’s love life goes from complicated to impossible. Can she stop herself from falling and keep track of all the lies piling up around her?

Why you should read it: Oh my goodness! This book made me feel everything! Your heart will break for Nicole – she gets treated so badly, when all she ever wanted was a home, a family and love. You’ll laugh at the situations she finds herself in and you’ll swoon with her interactions with Ethan. (When they’re not killing each other.) This book had it all. I’d tear up one chapter, laugh out loud the next and fan myself in others. It also leads nicely into the other books which will feature Ethan’s brothers. (More hot demi-gods – help!) They’re all gorgeous!

What you may not like: It’s not all sunshine and roses. The book does deal with some very serious issues – depression is becoming ever more prevalent in our society and the way the author dealt with the subject matter in this book was smart and reverent. I don’t know what you wouldn’t like about the story – it was water tight in my opinion.

Rating: 5/5 for a gripping, romantic, sad and sexy story. I can’t wait for more in this series!

Tell Me by Abigail Strom

coverBook: Tell Me

Series: Tell Me #1

Author: Abigail Strom

Release date: 1 October 2017

Main characters: Jane Finch, bookshop owner and daydreamer, Caleb Bryce, her sister’s business partner and friend.

Shy bookstore owner Jane Finch grew up hiding in the margins of her own life while her vibrant, adventure-loving sister, Samantha, dominated every plotline. She’s made peace with it, unlike Sam’s business partner, Caleb, who’s always nudging Jane to go after what she really wants. Why should she care what blunt, brash Caleb thinks? They’ve never had much in common, except for Sam.

After tragedy strikes, they don’t even have that.

Caleb can’t quite remember when Sam’s little sister stopped being like a surrogate sibling to him and became just…Jane. She’s the most intriguing woman he’s ever met, and so much sexier and stronger than she thinks. On the emotional journey to honor Sam’s memory, the spark they’ve tried to deny becomes an inferno. This journey was meant to be an ending, but will they discover an unexpected new beginning?

Why you should read it: This is my first Abigail Strom read and I don’t think it’ll be my last. It was funny, it was sad and then it was uplifting. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Jane and Caleb – their sparring and their genuine friendship made engaging reading. I also loved the references to Anne of Green Gables – which made me want to visit Prince Edward Island immediately! The pacing of the book was great – it didn’t feel rushed and it didn’t drag. It was a multi-faceted story and one which I thoroughly enjoyed.

What you may not enjoy: it was sweet and sexy and also intelligent – not a whole lot to hate on, so go for it! Caleb can be a bit in your face, but it’s not annoying really, and he soon does what’s necessary to win his woman!

Rating: 4/5 – a must read for fans of Anne Shirley, romance or L.M. Montgomery!

Our Top Picks of 2014!

Yes – it’s that time of the year! Time to pause and reflect over the past year and make a bunch of resolutions that won’t make it to the end of Jan! I’m feeling festive and reflective and so this post is dedicated to the best books Judith and I picked up this year.

On the down side, only six books really stood out for us this year, which is a shame – however I know am partly to blame for some dodgy choices!

In at number 6:

Scientific methodKris Ripper’s A Scientific Method series

Judith read the WHOLE series in the space of a week and could not get enough. Every conversation started with “Have you read it yet? Did you read it yet? Why not?!” It’s a crazy good series featuring MM, MMF, MFM and the combinations go on and on. So why was Judith so enamoured with it? I quote: Will’s story is ultimately a journey of self-discovery that doesn’t start out as pure smut. We see Will transform from a weak, unsatisfied boy into a man who knows what he wants and goes after it. The sex is also ho-ho-HOT!

In at number 5:

Nana Malone’s London BoundLondon Bound

I’ll read a good book by anyone, but occasionally it is refreshing to get a perspective from a heroine or hero of colour. High quality stories dealing with interracial relationships are kind of thin on the ground, so I enjoyed this story of US girl and Brit playboy immensely. The slang and the dialogue was spot-on. I’m the first to cringe when authors shoehorn UK slang in a way we just wouldn’t use – although, it can also be hilarious too! This book had heart and was very sexy. I am patiently waiting for book two in the Chase brothers series. I hope I’ll get to read it in 2015…

In at number 4:

S.L. Jennings’ Light Shadows

I recently reviewed this book and yes I’m still of the opinion that it was a great conclusion to a thrilling series. It had everything – smut, intrigue and adventure. Three of my favourite things! There were twists, turns and some shocks along the way. Dorian Skotos continued to smoulder and he proved that there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for love. I can’t wait to re-read the entire series as it’s such a ride!

In at number 3:

BeneathBeneath the Stain by Amy Lane

Hands down one of Judith’s faves of the year! Don’t let the impressive page count daunt you (it’s 482 pages), this book will be over in the blink of an eye as it is MM at its finest. Mackey and his brothers have hit the top of the recording game even while Mackey himself is spiraling out of control. Under the heavy weight of pressure to constantly produce inspired rock music and the crippling depression of losing his first love, Mackey has let himself get addicted to drugs. When his record label sends Trav Ford to help him clean up his act, it’s the thing Mackey needs to get a new lease on life. But just as he finally comes clean and is happy for the first time in years, that old love reappears and Mackey is left wondering whether what he and Trav have found is the real deal. Their passion is intense and the will they/won’t they aspect of their relationship will keep you on the edge of your seat. The sex scenes are smoking hot and so explosive you might just need to fan yourself…or at least read out of the vicinity of others!

In at number 2:

Alessandra Torre’s Black Liesblack_lies_official_cover
I’m still reeling from this book and it’s been months since I read it! I had a few preconceptions about the plot at the beginning of the story (it sounded as though it would be a little like Tarryn Fisher’s Opportunist) but I was completely wrong. Then something happened in the plot to turn everything on its head. I sped through it as I just had to know what was going on and why she was doing what she was doing. It was clever, well-structured and sexy as all get out. I will read anything by this woman any day of the week.

And the winner is…[fanfare please]

Samantha Young’s Before Jamaica LaneBJL
One of the first books I read this year and it set the bar HIGH for the rest of the year. Nate the hero, instructs Olivia his friend, in the ways of seduction. What the pair don’t bargain for is the heat they will generate together and the fact that their friends-with-benefits deal has a shelf life. I loved Olivia – she had body issues but she wasn’t a whiner. Nate is drop-dead gorgeous and a bit of a man whore. He’s also witty, funny and a damn loyal friend. How could a girl resist? The answer is – she can’t. I love Samantha Young – I’ve read every book in the Dublin Street series and this one was one of my favourites. Pick up a copy, if you haven’t already done so.

So – what do you think? Did we get it right? Are you furrowing your brows thinking “idiots!” – well, we want to know. What was your top read of 2014?

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday and a great New Year. Happy reading!

Onnica & Judith.

Holiday reading – where’s a girl to start?

I don’t know about you, but at the moment my to-be-read list is out of control! It doesn’t help that I follow a LOT of other bloggers too, so am seduced by the words ‘SALE’ or ‘RELEASE DAY!’ on a regular basis. I’m busy reading the stuff I buy and my job is seriously getting in the way of my blogging responsibilities. So I thought I’d be time-efficient: here’s what I actually managed to read during the holiday break and hopefully you’ll see something you like!

Carmen's NY climaxFirst up is a fun quick read by Nikki Sex. Carmen’s New York Climax is currently free (so I thought, nothing ventured…) and I have to say that it’s a hoot! A case of mistaken identity; a disillusioned Dom facing legal troubles with an ex; a chamber maid on the run from her past and chaos ensues. Beware, this story is HEAVY on the dirty loving and I will confess that after a while I did grow a little tired of the monkey sex, but I still want to find out what happens next. A steaming, fun read – 3/5

MonsterSecond is Monster by Julia Sykes – also free at the moment (aren’t I good to you?) It’s book one in a trilogy like the previous read but completely different. It’s exciting, with a tough and dignified heroine trying to come to terms with being kidnapped in order to save the life of a stranger. It’s really well-written and I was glued to the action. What will Claudia do next? And can she ever forget about Sean? An engaging, heart-stopping 4/5.

Ruin meLastly, but by no means least, is Ruin Me by Cara McKenna. If I ever meet Cara, I’m in serious danger of embarrassing myself. She’s one of my favourite authors and she writes a damn good tale! Ruin Me is sexy as hell and should come with a warning. The heroine, Robin, is set to marry Jay but can’t get her friend Patrick out of her mind. She’s a hypocrite but so sympathetic that you’ll love her. Who will she choose? Patrick, the brooding outsider who saved her life, or Jay, the sexy, loyal and besotted boyfriend? I give this 5/5!

I  hope you’re having fun reading or doing whatever for the long weekend – I need to go hit the books! It’s a tough job…XOXO.
