BLOG TOUR: London Royal by Nana Malone

Book: London Royal

Series: London Royal duet #1

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 22 October 2019

Main characters: Abena Nartey, budding photography student; Alexi Chase, a maybe-royal, hell-bent on forging a future where he’s not under his father’s control.

Plot: Abbie Nartey has begun to lose sense of who she is. Once spunky and vibrant, she’s become cowed and cautious. Having given in one too many times to a controlling and violent partner and her strict Ghanaian parents, Abbie decides enough is enough. After rejecting the career her parents believed appropriate, she arrives in London, having won a place on a prestigious photography degree. She’s scared, and is unsure of the future, but she has two friends on whom she can rely.

Alexi Chase is young, handsome, rich and bored. Bored of his social circle, bored of living under his father’s thumb. He has one shot to gain his freedom and he plans to take it. Meeting Abbie knocks him on his ass – literally. Despite the mutual attraction, Abbie is determined to stay boyfriend-free in London, as her last relationship was a disaster. Alexi believes he’ll never be able to form a fulfilling relationship due to the childhood secrets that still haunt him and only his brother knows about. So friends it is. Only friends don’t share kisses that literally rock their world…

Why you should read it: If the story sounds familiar, then it’s because these characters were first introduced back in the halcyon days of 2014. London Bound forms the basis on London Royal with some key changes complete with twists and turns here and there. I’m assured that book 2 London Soul will take these two characters to new places and new situations. The chemistry between Lex and Abbie is how I remembered it. It’s palpable and the sexual tension really gets ramped up to the max by the end of the book. Lex is a smitten kitten, but will his secrets come back to bite him?

What you may not like: I’m not sure. On the one hand, we’re revisiting a familiar pair of characters – if you read the book before will this enhance or reduce your enjoyment? I really don’t know – I’m conflicted about it to be honest. On the plus side, we’re getting more Lex and Abbie. I love them as characters and I love that we’ll get to read about them in exciting and dangerous settings. I can’t wait to see Lex unleash his alpha instincts!

Rating: 4/5 for a nice trip down memory lane and quite the cliffhanger!

Blog tour: The Billionaire’s Secret by Nana Malone

coverBook: The Billionaire’s Secret

Series: The Billionaire Duet #2

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 17 September 2019

Main characters: Zia Barnes, Royal Guard and bodyguard to the rich and powerful. Theo Coleman, philanthropic businessman who’s been inveigled into playing stand-in to  a member of the Royal household.

Blurb:

It was supposed to be a simple job. Go to the Winston Isles, stand in for my billionaire double for a few weeks.

But between the kidnapping attempt and accidentally falling in love with my bodyguard, things have been far from simple.

The good news, at least now the woman I love knows who I really am. The bad news is, no one else knows and someone is still trying to kill me.

I came to the Winston Isles to save my mother’s life, now I’ve got so much more than I bargained for. The trick will be to hold on to my brand new life and not get killed in the process.

Why you should read it: Bodyguard to the Billionaire ended on one heck of a cliff-hanger and so if you’ve read it, you’ll be desperate to find out what happens next. Zia and Theo have grown closer and closer despite the secrets between them, but now the situation has come to a head, with the appearance of the real Derrick Arlington. With Zia feeling betrayed, Theo has a lot of work to do in order to win her back. As always, I enjoyed the dialogue and the banter and the inclusion of the peripheral characters. This story wasn’t just a romance, it was also a story about love (all kinds) and family. I found it quite touching in places, and I certainly didn’t see the twist coming. The romance between Zia and Theo didn’t feel rushed and I certainly enjoyed the steady build of heat, the intrigue and the humour of the book.

What you may not like: Not much to dislike, in my view. The ending was perhaps a little abrupt, opening up the way for more books in this setting, but that’s it really. The characters were well rounded, the humour was lively and punchy and the romance was slow-burning. So, like I said, not much to dislike. I will say that Penny the Queen was a bit annoying in this particular book – wanting to be in the thick of the action while 7 months pregnant with the heir to the kingdom. Okaaay.

Rating: 4/5 for a truly enjoyable read that made me smile and kept my interest throughout the story. I never want tales from the Winston Isles to end!

Blog tour: Bodyguard to the Billionaire by Nana Malone

Book: Bodyguard to the Billionaire

Series: The Billionaire duet #1

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 23 July 2019

Main characters: Zia Barnes, Royal Guard and bodyguard to the rich and powerful. Theo Coleman, philanthropic businessman who’s been inveigled into playing stand-in to  a member of the Royal household.

Blurb:

Derrick Arlington is one of the world’s most eligible billionaires. Voted Sexiest Man Alive—two years running.

And I just so happen to look exactly like him.

It’s never come in handy until I get offered an actual job out of it.

It was supposed to be so simple.

Go to the Winston Isles, stand in as his body double for a few weeks, go back to my life.

But when our carefully constructed plan goes awry and the billionaire goes missing, I have no choice but to take his place and hire a bodyguard. The best in the business: a smart-mouthed, tight-assed, lady bodyguard.

Zia Barnes is the LAST thing I want, even if I need her. She’s determined, smart, and has no idea I’m a total imposter.

Good thing I have no intention on falling for her, or I’d be royally screwed.

Why you should read it: Wow! I knew I was going to adore this story having read the intro at the end of To Love a Prince and I wasn’t disappointed! Zia and Theo were adorable and the whole we-shouldn’t-but-we-really-want-to vibe struck just the right note in my opinion. I enjoyed the suspense and the pace at which the plot unfolded. The dialogue was punchy, funny and kept me fully engaged with the plot.

An example has to be Zia and her best friend Tamsin discussing Zia’s new client:

Tamsin shook her head at me. “Don’t go getting that soft look for him. He’s a grown man now. He doesn’t need you to take care of him.” “I know. I’m just experiencing empathy.” She shook her head. “I already told you that shit is bad for your health. Just as long as this empathy bullshit doesn’t catch you a case of feelings. I say sleep with him, but you need to kick it like Elsa and conceal, don’t feel.”

What you may not like: I truly enjoyed the humour, the conflict and the suspense of the book. But of course, now I have to wait for closure. Damn these duets! I know it will be worth the wait, however.

Rating: 5/5 for a slow burning, exciting and incredibly sexy read. Can’t wait for more!

Royal Tease by Nana Malone

Book: Royal Tease

Series: Royals United #1

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 13 November 2018

Main characters: Jessa McLean, PR guru and secret Princess. Roone Ainsley, sent to protect her by infiltrating her world.

Plot: Roone Ainsley is a trusted friend of the newly-crowned King. Who better then, to be given the mission to protect his half-sister, Jessa?

The mission is secret. Roone must get close to her, gain her trust but at no point must he reveal the truth about who he is. Simple right? Roone hates lies and when he meets Jessa and begins to enjoy her company, he likes his brief even less. How will she react when the truth comes out? And the truth must always out…
Jessa is where she wants to be professionally. She’s respected and damn good at her job. When Roone Ainsley shows up to mess with her head and her job, she has no intention of letting him jeopardise all that. The more time the pair spend together, the more confused she becomes about him – one minute he’s a thorn in her side, the next he’s her biggest advocate. Who exactly is Roone Ainsley?

Why you should read it: I really enjoy these Royal books – and I’m not usually a fan of royal-themed anything. The books are smart, the settings are vivid and the action is constant. I really liked Roone and Jessa’s characters. He’s strong and full of fun and himself – but he’s not overbearing. Jessa is stubborn stubborn stubborn – but she has good reason to dig in her heels. She’s been through a lot in life and she really doesn’t do the self-pitying thing, she just gets on with it.

The chemistry between the pair was enough to make me fan myself. It was definitely a slow but steady burn. I also loved that Nana name checked some of my favourite characters from the Chase brothers books – Abie and Alexis. I feel like I need to re-read those books now!

What you may not like: this is a duet and yes it does end on a cliffhanger. And yes – I want to know what happened right now!

Rating: 4/5 for successfully making a book set in the world of royalty realistic. There’s so much intrigue and mystery it’ll keep you turning those pages.

Her pupils dilated even as her gaze narrowed. When she spoke, her words were biting. “Since we’re on the subject, I don’t like being man-handled.” I narrowed my gaze in return. “When I man-handle you Jessa, you’ll know.” I turned and left her standing at the lift.
