REVIEW: Return of the Prince by Nana Malone

cover nana maloneBook: Return of the Prince

Series: Prince duet #1

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 30 April 2019

Main characters: Ariel Scott, tech-savvy, security expert to the crown; Prince Tristan, previously exiled, desperate to return to The Winston Isles, though nothing can prepare him for seeing Ariel again.

Blurb:

They said I’d never come home again…they were wrong.

There is one person worth returning home for. Her. One little problem. She hates me. She should, I left her behind.

Now I’m back and I with a score to settle, and I will do what ever it takes to to win her back.

Even if it means spilling my secrets.

Why you should read it: Oh my goodness! If you’re loving the Winston Isles and its couples and its intrigue, then I’m thinking you’re going to want to dive into Return of the Prince. Ariel has been a steady and intriguing presence in the other Royal books. She’s steadfast, loyal and family is everything to her. Despite her father’s actions, she’s back in the royal fold and providing essential security to the upper echelons of society. Life is good. It may be all work, but it’s something she can rely on. Her heart is used to disappointment – her doomed love affair eons ago with Prince Tristan still plays on her mind, but she’s resolved to moving on.

The plan for ‘moving on’ unravels when she’s asked by the King himself to provide security to his cousin, Tristan. Knowing she can’t refuse without a damn good reason, Ariel is forced to accept the mission. She’s been in difficult positions before – she can handle this one. Or so she thinks. I really felt for Ariel coming face-to-face with the man who broke her heart. Her fight or flight instincts want to kick in, but she has a reputation to uphold and an obligation to the Royal family, so it’s made doubly difficult for her.

Prince Tristan is an interesting character. He’s full of secrets and is also loyal to those he loves. He’s attractive and a sportsman in his own right, and life should be good. It was interesting in this story that the hero is the one with the baggage and the secrets that need to be dragged out of him. I found that quite refreshing.

What you may not like: I enjoyed the intrigue and the delving in to Tristan’s secrets. The back and forth between Ariel and Tristan was not tiresome – it could have gone on and on, but it didn’t and I feel that some of the secrets and mysteries have been answered in this first book, but there will surely be more revelations in book two. I enjoyed this book, was it my favourite of the duets? No – I think that the drama has been building and building as each book has been published, and that for me, it didn’t quite resonate with me as much as some of the previous books did. It’s still a banging read though!

Rating: 3.5/5 for a well-told story with one of my favourite characters – Ariel. I definitely want to see where the pair end up in book 2 for sure!

Teasing the Princess by Nana Malone

Teasing-the-Princess-web

Book: Teasing the Princess

Series: Royals United #2

Author: Nana Malone

Release date: 8 January 2019

Main characters: Roone Ainsley, best friend to the king and sent to protect Jessa McLean, the ‘lost’ princess. Jessa McLean, successful and savvy PR guru, who’s unfortunately used to having her life turned upside down.

Plot: Jessa is once again fleeing the only home she knows. This time however, she’s determined to get some answers and to find out once and for all who her enemies and who her allies are.  She won’t think about Roone and his deception – it hurts too much. She resolves to head straight into the eye of the storm – she’s heading for the Winston Isles and the source of all her trouble.

Roone knows he’s blown his chance with Jessa – but he couldn’t disobey a direct order from the king. He’s resolved to find Jessa, make her see sense and maybe one day she’ll be able to forgive him for his deception. He just has to find her first and keep her safe…

Why you should read it: if you read and enjoyed (and you should have read it first)  Royal Tease, you’ll know what a doozy of a cliffhanger it ended on. I was dying to read what would happen next – Jessa was such a badass! If you felt for Roone, then you need to read on to see what happens to him. The dialogue was punchy and the plot didn’t drag – it moved along nicely and each page was exciting and a delight. I also enjoyed the peripheral characters who appeared in the other Royals series – I love them and their realness and the multiple points of view weren’t at all jarring.

What you may not like: I’m not sure really. There was A LOT going on in the book and with so many characters involved, you may need to jog your memory a bit on past plots and character references – it wasn’t a big deal though. I thoroughly got caught up in the action and went with it! I was rewarded with an exciting and satisfying read. I totally recommend it.

Rating: 4/5 for a truly enjoyable read for the holidays – it was just what I needed.

Sinful by Nana & Minx Malone

4BAEF00F-3921-400F-A3AB-B94026A5CD8ABook: Sinful

Series: Sin #2, a duet

Authors: Nana Malone, Minx Malone

Release date: 19 June 2018

Blurb:

Leave it to me to finally learn how to drive stick…with a woman who’s nothing but trouble. Protecting people is what I do. But with Gemma everything is different. There was a time when she was my everything and I would have given my life to protect her. Now she’s back and this time I won’t fail her. I’m ready to put it all on the line to keep her safe. My past finally caught up with me and I had to make a choice. Leave or destroy my family. I’ll do anything to keep them safe…including walk into enemy territory.

Why you should read it: This is the conclusion to the duet focusing on Matthias’s back story. If you enjoyed the prologue Before Sin and Sin then you’ll want to know what happened after that huge cliffhanger! Sinful had plenty of drama, sexual heat and action. Matthias has a lot to deal with and he’s more than ready to succeed so that he and Gemma can be together.

What you might not like: This book seemed rather disjointed to me in places. The action chopped and changed and at times it felt as though I’d skipped a few pages. For example – at the end of book two Matthias hates Gemma. At the start of book three, their reconciliation has totally been skimmed over. This happens in a few places, which made it a little confusing at times, not to mention a bit frustrating. Without dropping any spoilers, this duet has been building and building to a huge climax, but in some respects the showdown was a bit of an anti-climax. New plot-lines were added in towards the end that had me scratching my head as it was brand new information! I don’t know, maybe my issues with the book will be ironed out at editing stage, but for me, the scenes I wanted to read just weren’t there.

My other issue with the book was that Gemma is a trained machine, just like Matthias. But in this book, she doesn’t get to kick ass much at all!

Rating: 3/5 – all in all, an enjoyable read, but it wasn’t a perfect read. Bit disjointed but worth your time.

USA Today bestselling author Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense novel she “borrowed” from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick-butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination constantly channelling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as brazen and kick-butt as she thinks she is.

The Hit and Run Bride by Nana Malone

hit and runBook: The Hit and Run Bride

Series: Hit & Run Bride (Contemporary Romance Series #1)

Author: Nana Malone

Review by: Onnica

Basic story: Life for Becca Daniels seems to be coming together. A new promotion has landed in her lap; her dashing boyfriend has proposed to her and decided to whisk her away to Hawaii for a wedding that involves the Ironman competition, mini-marathons and who knows what else. The fact that she’s more of a treadmill girl and can’t swim a stroke – well, how hard can it be?

Determined to face her fears and be able to at least doggy paddle on her honeymoon, she decides to attend an adult swim class. The terror of stepping into the pool is nothing when faced with her teacher. The guy she rear-ended in the parking lot earlier!

Liam Caldwell is dedicated to helping teach children and adults reach their full potential in swimming. Putting aside his personal goals to care for his ailing mother, he enjoys the coaching of others. When he sees Becca, he realises that the professional boundaries of teacher and pupil will be tested to the limit. And when she takes him up on his offer of private lessons? It’s game over.

Why you should read this: I really really enjoyed this story! It’s light on drama, but has enough to make you look forward to the HEA. Becca and Liam are hot together. She’s clearly with a guy who doesn’t know the first thing about her and once she meets Liam she’s able to be herself and he likes her just fine! The chemistry was off the charts hot and the banter and dialogue was totally realistic – I was swept up in the action and read it quickly. You know that feeling when you finish a good romance and let out a satisfied sigh? Yep, that was me.

What you might hate: Honestly, you may feel a little annoyed about Becca’s indecision towards the end, but it doesn’t last long – she’s a pretty sorted heroine who generally does the right thing and it adds to the dramatic tension. This isn’t a story about cheating. (Her fiancé-to-be is kind of a douche and frankly deserves it.)

Rating: 4/5 for a light, touching and very very sexy read. Likeable and engaging characters would know how to generate some heat. Read it!
