RELEASE BLITZ: Violent Triumphs by Jessica Hawkins

Happy release day to one of our favourite authors Jessica Hawkins! The wait is finally over!

Title: Violent Triumphs

Series: White Monarch #3

Author: Jessica Hawkins

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: November 12, 2019

BLURB:
I’ve become a queen to the forsaken, a leader to thieves, and the wife of a man who instills fear in all who cross his path. He was the husband I didn’t want. Now, I can’t fathom life without my king.

I should’ve been ready for anything. Like the caterpillar that feeds on poison during metamorphosis, I was raised in the dangerous world of cartel crime. But nothing could’ve prepared me for Cristiano de la Rosa, his brother’s poison, or the Calavera cartel.

This is still a story about a love strong enough to topple households, unite enemies, and divide brothers. Resilient enough to bring down those who would try to destroy it . . . and selfless enough to make the ultimate sacrifice.

But I was warned, and so were you. Death’s day always comes. This time, it will find what was once a caterpillar is now a butterfly—and hell hath no fury like the White Monarch.

Blog tour: Dirty Headlines by L.J. Shen

FDC4D612-D980-4347-AC8E-5818BA78EFC7Book: Dirty Headlines

Author: LJ Shen

Series: a standalone

Release date: 7 September 2018

Main characters: Judith Humphry, plucky would-be reporter with 99 problems; Célian Laurent, successful, infuriating, rude and a thorn in Jude’s side.

Blurb:

Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.

Notorious playboy.

Heir to a media empire.

…And my new boss.

I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.

I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory–namely, his wallet.

Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.

But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.

Brooklyn girl.

Infamously quirky.

Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.

When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.

He knows it.

So do I.

Every day in the newsroom is a battle.

Every night in his bed, war.

But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag.

Why you should read it: Well! This book was hot. And rude – extremely graphic! If you like your romances sweet and gentle, this read is not for you! I enjoyed the premise – very much so. I liked Jude a lot. The poor woman has a lot of worries and luck is not on her side. Despite her desperate situation, she still manages to stay upbeat and optimistic and she has a wicked turn of phrase – not many of which I can repeat here! Her imagined conversations with Jesus are hilarious and made me laugh out loud. Her quirky obsession with her Chucks also warmed my heart. I adore Converse and would also wear them everyday if I could! The book has it all – simmering tension between the hero and heroine, family intrigue and secrets that makes the Carringtons from Dynasty look like a happy family!

What you may not like: Dare I say Célian? We all love a rogue, an ass and a jerky hero from time to time, but he really made me work at liking him. He was a total anti-hero for a good three quarters of the book. He does redeem himself by the end I think, while staying true to his surly character – so I’d say if you hang in there, you will be rewarded. The main characters are not perfect – nor did I want them to be.

Rating: 4/5 for an engaging and adult read – it’ll make you blush, fan yourself and laugh a lot. It’s definitely worth a look!

Torture to her Soul by J.M. Darhower

JMDarhower coverBook: Torture to her Soul

Author: JM Darhower

Series: (Monster in his Eyes #2)

Format: uncorrected ARC

Review by: Onnica

**This review contains a few spoilers from book 1 – so make sure you’ve read it first!**

Basic story: The action picks up from where Monster in his Eyes left off. Karissa is struggling with who Naz really is and his connection to her ever-diminishing family. So she does what any self-respecting adolescent would do – she ignores him. Naz is content to ride out the storm for as long as it takes, as long as Karissa stays with him. Despite not being able to trust her, he’s adamant their wedding plans and the future they had planned will go ahead as scheduled.

Naz has more things to worry about than Karissa’s cold treatment. His associate and father-figure Ray is displeased with their relationship and makes his feelings clear on the subject: she’s a Rita and needs to be dealt with. There’s no way Naz is going to stand by and allow Karissa’s to be hurt. It’s not in his nature. So even if that means taking on ‘family’, so be it. She may not want to be protected by him, but sometimes the adage better-the-devil-you-know is accurate.

As the pair struggle to find some middle ground, the road to reconciliation is a rough one. Karissa’s about to face the biggest betrayal in her life and must decide whether she can really be with Naz forever, or whether he really is a monster after all…

Why you should read it: I was a huge fan of Monster in his Eyes – the plot, the twists and the smut were delicious. If you read and enjoyed it, how could you not want to read Naz and Karissa’s next instalment? Naz is back and as dark and brooding as ever. This book is his story, told from his point of view. You’ll get to know him inside out – the good, the bad and the downright terrifying. What I liked and appreciated was the humour in the book. Naz can be dry and witty at times and when he teases Karissa by mimicking her or repeating her questions back to her is actually very endearing. The story isn’t heavy all the time and I was grateful for these moments of comic relief.

What you might hate: Ok! deep breath. So, one of the things I liked about Naz as a character was that he didn’t say a lot, but what he said meant something. He wasn’t a massive talker. But jeez – his internal monologue? I lost count of how many times he said he was a bad man over and over and that he’d never let Karissa go. He did go on a wee bit. Secondly, the ability to suspend my disbelief in certain plot lines was not easy – the ultimate betrayal I alluded to before – personally, I don’t see anyone being forgiven or coming back from that. But hey, I’m not in the mob so what do I know? What about Karissa? She’s a typical nineteen-year-old so I didn’t expect too much from her, but she surprised me by finally growing up and facing her problems once and for all. In the end, she has the power over her life and the choices are hers.

Rating: a tricky one as I was super-excited to read this and expected it to be on a par with book one. If I’m honest, for me it wasn’t and it felt a lot longer than the first book. However, I was glad to see how it all ended for the pair. I expected a Greek tragedy at the end, but somehow they managed to get their HEA. Was I a bit disappointed? Perhaps by the repetition at times, but all in all, a heart-stopping thrill ride of a book that I give 3/5.

Devour Me by Kailin Gow

Taryn Cummings could not believe she was accepted into the prestigious International Institute of Culinary Arts culinary institute she dreamed of studying at in beautiful Paris, France. It was a far cry from her unglamorous life back home in New York where she helped her mother run their small family-owned restaurant called Sam’s. The Institute churned out the top chefs in the world, including the wildly sexy and eccentric Master Chef, Errol King, whose celebrity personality was larger than life.

She wanted excitement in a city of romance and thrills, but arrived to find her apartment barely livable and herself in need of a suitable place to stay. A chance meeting at the Institute brings her face-to-face with her new roommate…the devilishly charming Errol King, who would be guest teaching her class this term.

The attraction is as hot as the fire they cook with, and while Errol King, the notorious bad boy chef with an attitude, can get anyone he wanted into his bed, he wanted this woman more than anything. Something about her sweet innocence and sad eyes reach into his harden heart, but is it enough for him to forget his past?

Vital Sign by J.L. Mac

My world was perfect, until it wasn’t. I fell fast and hard straight into the fiery pits of hell, my past a bittersweet torture that never went away; the sadness, eating away at my soul. My life is empty. No meaning. No hope. No vital sign.

Despite her general indifference to organ donation, Sadie sets out to heal by finding those who benefited from her husband’s tragic death, but instead of peace, finds only jealousy and rage.

Though Sadie hates Alexander McBride for his health, he soothes her grief in ways that are intoxicating; addictive even. Can she learn to love the man who now owns the heart that used to beat just for her?  If she has any hope of overcoming her all consuming grief, he must convince her that it still does.

Searching for Moore by Julie Richman

I lost the love of my life when she disappeared without even a goodbye.

A friend just told me he saw her on Facebook. And now I’m a keystroke away from asking her the question that’s haunted me for two decades.  “Why did you leave me?”

Sexy entrepreneur Schooner Moore receives the birthday bombshell of a lifetime – his true love, college girlfriend Mia Silver, the girl who broke his heart when she fled without even a goodbye at the end of their freshman year, has been seen on Facebook. Now 24 years later, Schooner discovers the truth behind what drove Mia from him as he tries to once again win her love.

Gemini by Penelope Ward

Cedric wasn’t expecting to fall in love at first sight with the pretty waitress he’d set out to find. In fact, she was the last woman on Earth he should be having feelings for. Before revealing himself, he makes her believe their meetings are coincidental. Cedric’s lies and secrets are finally revealed, changing both of their lives forever.

Angel After Dark by Kahlen Aymes

Gorgeous, hotshot executive, Alexander Avery, is all business and doesn’t believe in love. He bases his relationships on mutual convenience and makes no apologies for his lifestyle or his choices. When his on-the-way-out girlfriend calls into a late night radio program to whine about his treatment of her, he is angrier at the host’s advice, than the inconsequential woman’s bitch-fest.

Psychologist Angeline Hemming has little tolerance for bullshit, so when Alex calls into her show a week later to give his side of the story, she calls him out on his excuses, and um…habits.

When they finally meet, their sexual chemistry and mental connection leaves them both reeling, as they take their fight… to the mattresses!
