Author: Callie Hart

Release date: 16 November 2017

Main characters: Beth Dreymon, law student whose life is about to change dramatically. Raphael North, reclusive yet successful tech genius with myriad secrets.

Plot: Beth Dreymon is in the final stages of her law degree but the debt she’s in has her desperate to make ends meet. When her friend Thalia suggests a gig playing chess with a client once a week for quite a lot of money, it sounds too good to be true to Beth. She’s right. The client in question is Raphael North, tall dark and foreboding. He’s intense, strange and inappropriate and before long, it seems he not only wants to figure out her chess strategy but what lies beneath her façade too.

Raphael is complex and at first glance, irritated by Beth. After a series of strange chess appointments, he makes his play clear. He wants Beth. No matter what the cost…

Why you should read it: As much as I roll my eyes occasionally at the whole billionaire trope, it’s one I like to come back to once in a while. It’s very seductive: a young, rich man who’s tough and brash on the outside, hiding sensitivity and vulnerability on the inside. What’s not to like? I enjoyed the story because there was plenty of intrigue going on in the background. Callie Hart took the time to flesh out the characters and the plot rather than skipping straight to sexy time. So there is a powerful and dramatic story weaved into the main action.

What you may not like: As I said, if you’re not a fan of billionaires with baggage, this one may not be for you. I liked that Beth was battling her own issues and not ready to give into Raphael’s idiosyncrasies. She had moxie and I enjoyed her character’s evolution throughout the story. Raphael was an odd duck – but an incredibly sexy one!

Rating: 4/5 for a surprising and very, very sexy story. It’s seriously hot and I thought we’ll paced.
