Book: Crazy Over You
Series: Love With Altitude novel #2
Author: Daisy Prescott
Release date: 28 March 2017
Main characters: Mara Keiley, skittish vet, who’s prone to panic attacks; Jesse Hayes, ski patrol and all-round knight in shining armour, about to rescue her from the top of an advanced ski slope.
Crazy Over You is a standalone romantic comedy and the second book in the Love with Altitude series.
Plot: Mara Keiley is the new vet in town and literally trying to find her feet on a ski slope. After a particularly bad panic attack, she’s unable to move. When a handsome ski patroller passes by and coaxes her down the hill, she realises that kind stranger isn’t a stranger. He also doesn’t seem to remember her. At all.
Jesse Hayes has seen it all on the slopes. He’s wasn’t expecting to see Mara ever again, and certainly not frozen with fear on a ski slope. After the night they spent together, he never forgot her, but she doesn’t seem to remember him at all. Intrigued by her completely, he’s determined to get to know the real her. And make her remember the first time they met…
“I’m paid to be a nice guy.” He gives me a sweet smile while his eyes shine with mischief.
“You’re only nice when you’re being paid?” I squint at him with distrust.
“You make me sound like a male escort.” His smile falters but the mischievous spark doesn’t fade.
“Your words not mine.”
“Better than a stripper. At least I don’t have to prance around on stage in a thong.” He chuckles.
But I’m not laughing.
The word echoes around in my head as a strong sense of déjà vu hits me smack in the face.
Me dancing on a bar in a short, silver dress. Me practically showing off the goods to a crowd of cheering men.
Oh no. Oh shit. Friends, we have a problem.
My savior isn’t prince charming.
No, I’m not that lucky.
He’s my worst nightmare.
He’s my one night stand from two years ago.
Why you should read it: I really enjoyed Next to You, book one in this series. Aspen is described so beautifully and vividly that it makes me want to pack up and head out there (even though I don’t ski!). Crazy Over You has the same energy, fun dialogue and a sweet romance at its core. Jesse and Mara are a sweet, drama-free couple, wanting to take the plunge into ‘more’. This is a feel-good read – no heavy angst, no third-party drama.
What you may not like: If I’m honest, I struggled with this story a bit. It didn’t have the same ease that Next To You had. In places, it seemed a bit disjointed, both in dialogue and plot. Mara was prone to babbling – which was cute at times, and annoying at others. For me, it lacked something and I couldn’t engage with the story 100%. Jesse had a really interesting back story, but we only caught a glimpse of what he and his family had been through. I would have liked to know more about his family dynamic.
Rating: 3/5 for a sweet and gentle tale. Not one of my favourite books by Daisy Prescott, but it will make you feel good and happy inside.
