Slave to Love by Julie A. Richman

Book: Slave to Love

Author: Julie A. Richman

Release date: 14 Jan 2016

Main characters: Sierra Stone, ambitious and strong  heroine, Hale Lundström, brilliant tech CEO with zero social skills when it comes to Sierra.

Plot: Sierra Stone is on the path to success. Wanting the  promotion to end all promotions, she’s hell bent on getting to the top through hard work and her intelligence. That means skilfully deflecting the big bosses sexual advances and certainly not lusting after her new VIP client, Hale Lundström.

The minute he lays eyes on Sierra, Hale Lundström is done for. Tongue-tied, awkward and fumbling aren’t adjectives women would use to describe him usually, but she completely bowls him over. When Sierra is given the task of heading up a major project for him, Hale tries to be professional, maintain his distance, but there’s just something about Sienna he can’t resist. Will Sierra give him the time of day, or are they bound to long for each other from afar?

Why you should read it: Oh my God – this book was so much fun! I inhaled it on a cold Sunday afternoon and I nearly spontaneously combusted. The chemistry between Sierra and Hale is off the charts – it’s a total slow burner, which I love. The dialogue was spot on, as was the level of drama and the complications keeping them apart wasn’t too much. Sierra is a great character – strong, direct and driven, she also has her vulnerabilities. Hale is so so sweet. He’s manly, yet sensitive. He doesn’t always read a situation correctly, which leads to mixed results. I loved this pair.

What you may not like: Not much – it’s a traditional romance, yet with a very different setting.  There is some crass language at times between some of the characters, but for me it was a perfect read that made me feel all warm inside and also made me laugh out loud. It was a bit difficult at times to know whose point of view the narrative was from as each chapter bats between the two, but I had fun working it out!

Rating: 4/5 for a fun, exciting and original read. I will definitely be checking out more books by Julie A. Richman.
